"ARMADA 2010 Alternative Arts and Fashion Festival in Lithuania postponed until September.
For three days, July 1st thru 6th, Vilnius will transform itself into the center of European alternative art and fashion. Now for the seventh year, the old buildings and ancient streets of Vilnius’s “Uzupis” district - long known as the Montmartre of Lithuania - will be filled with fashion, art, theatre, music, and dance from many European nations. arMADA ’2010 promises, once again, to be the major alternative culture festival of Central and Eastern Europe. arMADA ‘2010 is organized by the Alternative Art Center “Uzupis”-2. The organization unites the efforts of more than a hundred people, both young and new, to the cultural scene as well as many of the leading members of the Lithuanian cultural community. Our goal is to showcase the most original and outstanding projects of local and international artists, designers, dancers and musicians, by providing free space to present new talent. Our intention is to help stimulate common efforts and creative development thus creating a greater interest in innovative art. arMADA ‘2010 will be much bigger than ever, with more than 3 000 people in expected attendance. They will be challenged with the question: “What is art?”. Judging by the phenomenal success of other alternative art festivals organized over the years, this question continues to motivate innovation in the region’s art scene, bring art closer to the general public, as well as present a wonderful opportunity for an international audience to become familiar with Lithuanian culture and those of other nations. The festival will be centered in Uzupis, but its events will also take place in greater Vilnius proper as well as in the resort town of Palanga - the largest seaside resort in the Baltics. The participants will include recognized avant-garde artists from – England, France, Italy, Russia, Denmark, Germany and Scandinavian countries. In addition, scores of alternative and avant-garde artists from all over Lithuania will participate. arMADA ‘2010 promises again to be a wonderful experience for both participants and audience members alike. Join the arMADA ‘2010 this summer! We look forward to having you in Lithuania among many friends this year. We will deliver on our promise! |
